Tiny Tennis Program “Tiny
Tennis in a nutshell is the starting point for all young tennis players
between the ages of 5 – 8 yrs. It is our aim at Riley Tennis to have
our young players hitting and rallying as soon as possible. This way
the game remains fun and exciting for all to play, whilst developing
their skills using the Game Based Approach"
Steve Riley, Head Coach
This
program is about introducing young children between 5 – 8 yrs to the
game of tennis in a fun and exciting environment. Tiny Tennis is the
first stage of the tennis pathway and is a modified version of the real
game.
Here we use
small courts, lower nets, small / light racquets, low compression balls
and most importantly proven GBA games / techniques to develop our young
players.
Young players who try to play the adult game of tennis can loose interest very quickly. Here are the reasons why:
The tennis balls are too hard
They bounce too high
Rallies are short with minimal control
They spend most of the time in a line and picking up balls
How Tiny Tennis can help?
Low Compression Balls:
-
Increases the success of stroke production because they move slower and are less responsive, so they will not bounce as high.
-
Increases the likelihood of rallying and control because they will not travel as fast or as hard as a full court tennis ball.
Game Based Approach:
-
Tennis skills are developed through GBA
-
Focus is on the children’s participation
-
Their own involvement in starting the activity
Can be played almost ANYWHERE
-
Tennis Courts, School Yards and Indoors
Progressive Program
-
Players move through the modified program from easier games and smaller courts to harder games and larger courts
Equipment
-
Smaller courts – encourages control
-
Small / Light racquets – easy to swing
-
Small / Lower Nets – more shots over & more rallies
